WaterBillCheck reviews business water bills for UK organisations. We look closely at the charges and usage on your bills, and we tell you clearly what we find – whether that is a possible error, an opportunity to reduce future costs, or reassurance that things look right.
Who we are
Water bills are easy to overlook. They are usually smaller than energy or property costs, they arrive from organisations that most businesses rarely deal with, and they contain charges – for wastewater, surface water drainage and standing charges – that few people have time to unpick. We set up WaterBillCheck to give businesses, charities and other organisations a straightforward way to have those bills checked.
We are not a water supplier, and we do not sell water. Our job is to look at the bills you already receive with a fresh, careful eye and to help you understand them. That means you get a view of your charges that isn't tied to any particular retailer or tariff, and a clear explanation of anything that may be worth raising with whoever bills you.
How we work
Our approach is simple and the same for every customer, explained step by step on our how it works page.
- We start with the bills. You send us up to 12 months of bills and we review them line by line – readings, consumption, wastewater, drainage, tariffs and standing charges.
- We explain, not just flag. Every finding in your summary comes with the reasoning behind it, so you understand why something may be wrong and what evidence supports it.
- You stay in control. We don't contact your retailer or water company without your agreement.
- We're clear about fees. We'll explain any fees before any work goes ahead.
What we value
Honesty about outcomes
We don't promise refunds or savings. Some reviews identify possible overcharges or future savings; some don't. Where a correction is needed, the final decision rests with your retailer or water company. We would rather tell you that your bills look right than suggest a problem that isn't there.
Plain English
Water billing has its own vocabulary – wholesalers, retailers, return to sewer, site area, standing charges. We write our summaries so that a busy business owner or office manager can understand them without a glossary.
Accuracy
The business water market works differently in England, Scotland and Wales, and the rules are changing: in July 2025 the Government announced that Ofwat will be replaced by a new water regulator. We keep track of these developments and take your location into account, rather than applying one approach to every bill.
Auditing first, not selling
Our focus is on whether you are being charged correctly. That is a different question from which supplier you use, and the answer matters wherever you are – including in Wales, where most business customers cannot switch retailer.
How we handle your data
Your bills contain information about your business and premises. We use it only to carry out your review and to talk to you about it. We keep documents secure, restrict access to the people working on your review, and do not sell your data or share it with suppliers for marketing. You can ask us to delete your information, subject to any legal record-keeping requirements. Read our privacy policy for full details.
Who we help
We review bills for offices, retailers, hospitality venues, care homes, schools, charities, industrial sites and organisations with many premises across England, Scotland and Wales. See who we help or our full list of services.
